Skull
Skull
Paint and Melted Polystyrene
60 x 40 x 2 in.
2012

Skull is an example of a mode of working where the painting is executed on a
surface comprised of a group of smaller blocks of foam. In this case 120 sections
measuring 4 x 5 x 2 in. each. After subjecting the painting to my process of melting
the polystyrene ground, the piece is to be sold off piece by piece until all of it is
gone. A map has been made plotting where each numbered section of the painting
falls within the whole. This enables those who posses one or more of the sections,
to install their portion(s) in the same position they held in the original configuration.
The disintegration of the primary painting into the individual components is a
means to further abstract the gestural image of the skull. The specific sections
people choose not only stand on their own as non-representational fragments, but
also offer them the opportunity to re-configure and alter the original composition as
they see fit.
